The Gawler Petanque Club held its annual medal presentation on Sunday, February 9.
Prior to the presentation one game was played between Deborah Ashton, John Gejas and Claire Rex versus Stan Wilson and Glenis Head. This turned out to be a very long game.
Glenis and Stan got off to a good start scoring five points on the first two ends.
Their opposition managed two on the next end.
Scoring was fairly even over the next few ends, with Glenis and Stan reaching 11 points and Deborah, John and Claire with seven points.
With some excellent pointing by John's team they were able to hold Glenis and Stan on 11 and make their score 12.
It was then Glenis's turn to do some excellent pointing and get the two points required to win the game.
It was then time for a sausage sizzle lunch to be followed by the medal presentation.
Winners were Most Improved - John Ingram; Best Average - Stan Wilson and Highest Aggregate - John Gejas, with a total score of 1170 points from 113 games.
He was very closely followed by David Willis in second place with a score of 1136 from 110 games.
The club's competition, Jim Steel Challenge, was won by David Willis and Stan Wilson.
The club meets on Sundays at Hallam Drive, Gawler, from 10.15am provided the temperature is not forecast to be 35 degrees or over (in which case players may meet earlier).
Everyone is welcome to come and try.
The first three visits are free and loan equipment and training is available.
