Stretching their limits

Barossa Herald - Stuart Taverner

Barossa ambulance crews are being put under pressure and working up to 96-hours straight as hospital ramping and workloads increase, according to a union representative. Currently the Barossa has two ambulance crews during the day and one at night with other crews required to be on-call if needed which is stretching current resources.

No coverage for emergencies

Lucy Pearce wants to highlight the lack of mobile phone coverage in regional South Australia after her fiance suffered a workplace injury and could not call for help. Jon Paenga was involved in a serious farm accident but couldn't make an emergency call because he could not access a mobile signal - which is why Lucy is petitioning the Federal Government for more action.

Creating a jobs bonanza 

Port Pirie Recorder - Greg Mayfield

Plans for an abattoir to be built near Port Pirie could provide up to 600 jobs when it is gets to full production. A development application for the $72 million project is expected to be approved with the business anticipated to process about 3000 cattle and 300 sheep daily with the possibility of goats and camels as well.

Lock up and learn

Murray Valley Standard - Peri Strathearn

Excited laughter, eye-to-eye contact and interesting conversation has infiltrated the Meningie Area School again as a new trial creates a more positive, interactive atmosphere. Students are being asked to put their phones in a special pouch when they arrive at school which is then locked by a special device. Reports from other participating schools across the country have shown increased student engagement and a drop in detentions as a result.
