Christmas is one of the hardest times of the year for Australians doing it tough, The Salvation Army reveal.
Staff say with large numbers living in poverty and struggling to afford basics such as food, many will also spend the festive season alone.
At Christmas, the Salvos Australia wide will serve more than 100,000 meals, distribute more than 500,000 gifts and toys and support more than 70,000 families in need.
But they can only do this with the support of the Australian public
Christmas is the also busiest time of year for the Salvos across this region and there are a number of opportunities to assist or receive help.
In Gawler a special Christmas Day service will be held at 17 Edith Street, Gawler from 9.30am with all welcome to attend.
In addition, The Salvation Army's Carols Service will be held on Sunday, December 22 at 10am.
