'Watch and act' bushfire warning near Springton

A fire, caused by a tractor, burned eight hectares near Springton yesterday, destroying a caravan and an old shed.

The blaze, originating near Church Road, Springton was attended by six aircraft, 19 appliances and around 95 firefighters starting at 2.30pm yesterday November 28.

With strong south-easterly winds occurring at the time and the grass fire burning towards Strachans Road, locals were issued a Watch and Act warning until the fire was brought under control at about 4.30pm.

Under Severe fire weather conditions, the Mid North region was experiencing a Total Fire Ban on the day.

No injuries were reported.
