Peter Lehmann Wines celebrated their 40th anniversary on Wednesday, unveiling a new premium wine as part of the celebrations.
Just outside the newly renovated Old Redemption building at Peter Lehmann Wines in Tanunda, owner John Casella talked about the importance of honouring the winery's legendary founder, Peter Lehmann.
"Given the history of the Barossa, given the history of Peter Lehmann in the Barossa and given that the wine is a result of Peter Lehmann and his relationship with the growers we need to maintain the connection and build on the legacy," Mr Casella said.
"It's not one of of exploiting the legacy it's a matter of building on it and that's what we're trying to do."
"In having and more premium wine, in having something that demands a more premium price sends a message out there that we're serious about the quality that we we're making and that we're serious competitors to other premier wine regions around the world.
In a tribute to Peter Lehmann, 2015 'Masterson' has been crafted to embody the strength and spirit of the Barossa community and the camaraderie forged with generations of family grape growers.
The magnum bottle will retail at around $2000
The 2015 Masterson is produced from a "pristine parcel" from a small block on the Hammerling vineyard, located in the Moppa district in the Barossa's North-West.
