A significant step in Barossa's medical history will be made on Monday when the doors open at a new comprehensive medical imaging clinic.
The Benson Radiology Nuriootpa branch, located on Gawler Street, will welcome more than 30 patients currently booked in for Monday appointments.
Its arrival will provide a range of services, some of which were not previously available to Barossa and surrounding residents.
Nuriootpa resident Trevor Burgemeister is one of many residents pleased for the clinic's presence following the service's announcement in mid-December last year.
The retired executive shared how health issues from two years ago had led him to visit the Gawler clinic on a number of occasions.
While surgery has since eased his complaint, Mr Burgemeister said a nearby clinic is a "real convenience" for his community.
"As people get older, some can't drive, some don't like to drive and there are instances where people have lost their partners," he said.
"Also, those who rely on taxis; it means less travel time and a cost-saving measure."
Yet the retiree said the clinic further means "keeping money in the town".
"People can visit the clinic and then perhaps do a bit of shopping, whereas in town they would spend their money down there," he said.
Importantly, the clinic will provide x-ray and ultrasound services.
It will also provide services like dental imaging and CT examinations that have historically required residents to travel to Gawler.
A specialist radiologist will also be onsite daily to perform a range of higher end interventional procedures and guided injections.
Benson Radiology managing partner Dr Dale Allison said the practice was excited about its role in providing vital services to the region.
"Opening this clinic is an important milestone for our practice, but it's also significant to the health services of the region," Dr Allison said.
"Having been born and raised in a country town myself, I know that vital services can often leave regional areas."
"But we're delighted to be able to bring a comprehensive medical imaging service to the Barossa and surrounding communities."
The service also employs regional staff who have a strong a strong affinity with the region.
"That's something we take seriously," she said.
"We've served the local medical practitioners and their patients for more than four decades and to be able to deliver these services locally is a great outcome for all."
Benson Radiology's new clinic is open five-days-a-week and is located at 13 Gawler Street, Nuriootpa.
