The Gawler Petanque Club met at 10.15am at their grounds at Hallam Drive on Sunday, May 12, and played their games in cloudy but fine autumn weather.

We were very pleased to welcome Glenn Luckett who stopped by to see how Petanque is played and decided to stay on and "have a go" in the second game.

The first game between David Willis, Stan Wilson and John Ingram against Glenis Head, John Gejas and Claire Rex saw some very good shots from all players. John G, Glenis and Claire were winners with a score of 13 points against 9 points.

The second game was between Deborah Ashton, John G and Claire, against David Willis, Glenn Luckett (coached by Glenis) and Stan.

As a newcomer to the game, Glenn played some excellent shots and was instrumental in helping his partners, David and Stan, win the game 13 points to 5.

After a break for lunch, the third game got underway.

This was between Deborah, David and Claire against John G, Stan and Glenis, who got off to a very good start with a score of 8 to 1.

Deborah, David and Claire then scored 4 points on one end, bringing their score to 5. With

John, Stan and Glenis gaining points over the next two ends, score 10-5, another 4 points were scored by Deborah, David and Claire. However, they were unable to score any more points and were losers at 9 points to 13.

For the final game, between Stan and John G against Glenis and David, Stan and John won the toss and decided to play on what was one of the original pistes made from road base and is very difficult to master.

Despite some good shots by Glenis and David, Stan and John were outstanding winners with a score of 13-2.

The club usually meets at Hallam Drive, Gawler, from 10.15am.

Everyone is welcome to come and try.
