Police have returned a stolen gargoyle garden feature to its excited owner.

The gold cement statue was stolen from the yard of a Zimmermann Street, Nuriootpa home sometime on Thursday night.

The elderly victim appealed for assistance on social media to find the much-loved ornament.

A member of the public spotted the gargoyle on Research Road, Nuriootpa about 6pm, recognised it from Facebook and contacted local police.

Barossa Police returned the gargoyle to its relieved owner and thank the public for their assistance in this matter.
