Gawler Petanque players battle windy conditions at Dorrien

It was a very windy day for playing Petanque at Chateau Dorrien on Sunday.

Yet it was made better by some great games, particularly from our new members and visitors, and some excellent wine from the winery.

The first games were between Stan Wilson, Deborah Ashton and David Willis who quite comfortably beat Glenis Head (still with moonboot) and Chris Hartman 13-3, and between John Ingram and Mark Reardon who won their game against Deb Bald and John Gejas (our club champion) 13-6.

Mark, Glenis and Trevor Pattenden (visitor) then went on to beat Stan, Deb and John Ingram 13-9.

Trevor was playing his first game of Petanque and with some coaching played some very good shots. Well done to Trevor. John Gejas and Chris had a good game against David and Deborah, winning 13-6.

The two Johns, Gejas and Ingram, had a win against Stan and David, 13-8. Mark and Deb played Chris and Deborah, and won 13-7.

The final game was between John G, David and Mark against Stan and Glenis.

In such a game where three players are against two players, the three have only two boules each whereas the two have three boules each.

John, David and Mark were successful in winning 13-7, although there is always some discussion as to whether it is easier for three players to beat two. There are still only six boules per team in play, so it rather depends a lot on the players making the better shots.

The club will next meet at Hallam Drive, Gawler, at 10.15am on Sunday, December 9.

Everyone is welcome. Please contact Stan or Glenis on 0488 910 294 for more information.
