While three school leavers were arrested on the last night of Schoolies Festival, police say they were not major offences and it was overall a success night.
In separate incidents – one at 8.40pm and the other at 11.15pm on Sunday, November 25 – two 17-year-olds were arrested for using offensive language.
The third arrest was of an 18-year-old, who was arrested for hindering and resisting police just before 3am on Monday, November 26.
Another 24 fines were handed out for dry zone drinking, a significantly less number of the 50-plus who were issued the expiations on the first night.
Hills Fleurieu LSA’s Superintendent Mark Fairney said the 2018 event had been a successful one, “with no major incidents or injuries”.
“The success is due in a large part to the extensive planning and organisation throughout the year by stakeholders, in particular Encounter Youth and SA Police,” he said.
The operation continued on the Monday as the thousands of young people headed home.
Voluntary breath testing stations were set up with Victor Harbor, Middleton, Port Elliot and Goolwa caravan parks, where over 1000 tests were completed each day of the festival.
“We want to see every school leaver get home safely,” he said.
