Eudunda Community Hub and Shed is celebrating the benefits of mateship this Men’s Shed Week, September 23-30.
Mateship is an important pillar of every Men’s Shed, as first and foremost the shed is a place for men to knock about with a group of like-minded mates.
Although ECH&S welcomes both men and women to their sessions on Tuesday mornings, the shed will hold a ‘Men Only Open Day’ with a guest speaker from Beyond Blue, plus a free sausage sizzle to mark the special occasion.
The event will be held this Wednesday, September 26 at 10.30am at the corner of Pine Avenue and Worlds End Highway Eudunda.
For ECH&S chairperson Pauline Simmons, the shed has been a god send.
“My husband was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers a few years ago,” she said.
“This condition can be very isolating for both sufferer and carer. Through the Eudunda Men’s Shed, my husband now has friends.
“He looks forward to Tuesdays and doing “blokey” things with his “mates”. We would be lost without our shed.”
Friendship, loyalty and camaraderie are highly valued in men’s sheds around the world; where “shedders” are offered with a place to belong and contribute with purpose.
“One hundred years ago the end of WWI saw the spirit of mateship embedded into the fabric of Australian culture, and now a century later we’re proud to recognise that this spirit still lives on in many ways across the Men’s Shed community,” AMSA executive officer David Helmers said.
Men’s Shed Week is an annual event led by the Australian Men’s Shed Association to highlight the contributions of Men’s Sheds to their members’ health and wellbeing and to the wider community.
The sheds are vital community investments delivering programs and initiatives that foster community spirit and contribute to building a more inclusive Australia. For more information or to find your local Men’s
