Gawler project funds will make a difference

Recent lobbying by the Town of Gawler council, including several letters from myself as mayor to the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Stephan Knoll, has paid dividends as it relates to the Gawler East Link Road Project.

Last week Minister Knoll advised me that a further five million dollars has been allocated to deliver on the base scope of works for this important project for our region.

It is relevant to note that there are no conditions attached to this funding.

What a fantastic outcome and thank you Minister Knoll!

And another thing...

The Minister also supported council’s request that the project fund the additional cost to achieve the Gawler East Link Road /Potts Road offset roundabout.

This has saved the council from having to consider providing the additional $142,000 necessary to fund this work and will now be delivered as part of the project.

Importantly, it secures the ability to provide for a future preferential connection and extension of the Gawler East Link Road through to Tiver Road in Evanston South.

I have previously commented on the need to ensure this critical piece of infrastructure adequately supports new housing that is planned for Gawler over the next few years.

With a growth rate nearly twice that of South Australia as a whole, it’s important that any investment is worthwhile.

This additional five million dollars in funding will ensure the necessary mainline trunk services which were at risk of being removed from scope can now be delivered.

This extra funding is a good outcome not only for the project, but most importantly, the families who will make Gawler their home.

Karen Redmond,

Mayor,

Town of Gawler
