The Gawler Petanque Club held a successful ‘Come and Try’ day on Saturday, September 8.
After a brief introduction to the game and some initial coaching, games were played in the round-robin system organised by Stan Wilson.
The players were coached by members of the Gawler Petanque Club and those involved said how much they enjoyed what is a fun and yet challenging game.
After one round the club served a delicious lunch to all participants

Glenis Head and David Willis def Stan Wilson, Kathryn Warburton and David MacKinnon 13-3; Stan Wilson and Glenis Head, after being 0-6 down, defeated John Gejas and Chris Hartman 13-6; and David Willis and David MacKinnon def Mark Reardon and Roland Pye 13-5.
Glenis Head shared how each visitor was presented a medal for having a try at a sport “that has a funny name but it is a great game to play”.
“It can be played by anyone from the age of eight upwards, including anyone with a disability,” she said.
Gawler Petanque Club will next meet on Sunday, September 16 at Hallam Drive, Gawler from 10.15am.
