Town of Gawler mayor Karen Redman marked the opening of the dog park and fitness trail at Clonlea Reserve on Sunday as a huge success.
“Over 100 people came out with their furry friends to mix and mingle,” she said.
“It was a beautiful sunny day to officially launch this new facility which provides a secure place for the community to both socialise and exercise their dogs.
“The park, which has separate areas for both large and small dogs, coped very well with the numbers with dogs of all shapes, sizes, breeds and colours enjoying their new space.
“It was great to see them running around and socialising with each other, owners were delighted with this new well designed space.”
Ms Redman further praised Light Regional Council for a “generous” financial contribution” towards the annual maintenance of the dog park due to nearby Hewett residents being able to access the park.
”What a wonderful way for our two councils to come together and provide a facility for the residents and visitors to both of our council areas,” she said.
The council first identified the need for a dog park in November 2015.
After community consultation and in conjunction with assistance from the community, the area finally came to fruition this month.
Combined with the fitness trail, this is the first of its kind facilities for the Gawler Community.
