With a 20-year marathon effort in the pursuit of excellence, Chateau Tanunda has been recognised in the Top 15 Australian Wineries in Huon Hooke’s The Real Review ‘Awards of Excellence’ 2018.
With currently 3000-plus wineries in Australia, proprietor John Geber says it is an amazing honour to be ranked in the top 15 overall.
He and the team believe their success comes primarily on the consistent high reviews in the prestigious ‘Old Vine Expressions’, ‘Terroirs of the Barossa’ and ‘The Everest’ ranges.
With Huon Hooke known to be one of the toughest and renowned critics in Australia, Chateau Tanunda has consistently excelled with 32 wines ranked number one in their category and vintage, 22 Top Value wines and 20 Gold Ribbon recipients.
Mr Geber said the recognition is not created overnight.
It’s due to hard work over 20 years in the Barossa bringing the Chateau to life with six of its own Barossa vineyards.
Plus, support from “outstanding growers” and a pursuit of excellence in the winery – the Chateau has long enjoyed outstanding success overseas.
Yet he said this accolade marks a clear move to the top in Australia.
“Just like the great movie stars, we have played big overseas and been recognised for years overseas amongst the best in Australia,” Mr Geber said.
“It has been a steady marathon, delivering quality handcrafted wines over years and this is a clear sign that Chateau Tanunda is coming home.”
The ‘Awards of Excellence’ is a new initiative reviewing about 10,000 wines each year.
Huon Hooke’s The Real Review is bringing the focus back to where it should be – quality and consistency.
