As winter approaches and temperatures plunge in SA’s Barossa Valley, 20 artisan winemakers are dusting off their boardies and getting ready to head north to sunny Queensland. A decade since the Barossa in Boardshorts wine tasting series first kicked off in Brisbane, it’s back on the agenda, bigger and better than ever.

Barossa in Boardshorts will take place in 4 iconic locations across SEQ over 4 days in late July to offer wine lovers the chance to meet, chat, taste and buy boutique Barossa wines, many rarely seen outside of their cellar doors. But instead of the stuffy feel of traditional wine tastings, this series will offer an altogether more laid-back and quintessentially Queensland vibe, boardies and all.

Each event will run for 3 hours and celebrate the outdoor, beachy, tropical feel of Queensland life, with funky music and a fun and irreverent approach to the wines themselves. Tickets will include unlimited tastings and laid back Queensland style food, and will be available at just $49.

Event organiser Darren Davis is no stranger to championing the smaller, lesser-known producers from the region. “A few years ago we set up Brisbane’s first Barossa-themed venue, which introduced me to many of the exciting, boutique wineries that we do not usually get to experience here in QLD – bringing them to a new and appreciative audience has been a pleasure and a privilege for me,” says Davis. “This annual tasting series will continue that legacy, but now on a much broader scale.”

The line-up of producers on show encompasses both the old guard and new wave winemakers of the Barossa, but all have two things in common –they are passionate, artisan producers, and all will be in their finest tropical shirts for the occasion.

The events will take place:

  • The Island, Broadbeach Thursday 26 July 6pm – 9pm
  • Blank Space, The Spotted Cow, Toowoomba Friday 27 July 6pm – 9pm
  • Baedeker, Fortitude Valley Saturday 28 July 6pm – 9pm
  • The Maroochy Surf Club, Maroochydore Sunday 29 July 1pm – 4pm
