From hot and windy in round 1 to cold and raining in round 2… welcome to football ladies!
Angaston Football Club hosted round 2 of The Co-op BLGW and did a fantastic job of it in trying conditions. The hot chips, donuts and coffee on offer at the canteen and the very welcome sausage sizzle were all very popular on the day. Consistent rain all day meant an introduction to “wet weather football” for all new players. Teams that could pick up the ball cleanly and stay on their feet in the wet and slippery conditions certainly had the advantage.
The girl’s football skills have been taken to another level this season, especially the girls playing their second season in the U14’s and U17’s grades. They now have the confidence to pick up the ball, run with it, and in most cases deliver it with some accuracy to a team mate. This then has a ripple effect with their newer team mates who themselves are growing in confidence and improving their skill. The Senior Women are a breath of fresh air for this competition, bringing a healthy mix of fun, friendship and competitiveness to each game.
In the seniors, Kapunda made it back to back wins to start the season with a 30 point win over South Gawler.
The Bombers triumphed 8.10.58 to South Gawler 4.4.28.
Angaston defeated Willaston in a close one to open their account.
The final score was 6.7.43 to Angaston’s 7.12.54.
Elsewhere Tanunda brushed aside Gawler Central 3.3.21 to 8.12.60, a convincing first win of the season.
This coming Sunday, the competition heads to Nuriootpa for round 3 with the first games kicking off at 9am between traditional rivals Nuriootpa and Tanunda, and Barossa Blue and Angaston.
