Marriage has its up and downs but care and love for each other is the most important thing.

That is according to three couples in Saddleworth who are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this week.

Barry and Margaret King, Rory and Barbra Noack, and Peter and Hilde van Beusichem all tied the knot within the space of two weeks of each other in 1958.

The couples even live in the same street as each other – all in a row, to be exact.

The Kings and the Noacks were married at the Methodist Church in Saddleworth and have lived in the same homes since December 1958.

It was not until their 50th anniversary that the two couples realised there was a third couple living in their street who shared the same anniversary.

The van Beusichems married in a small town in Holland, six weeks before they emigrated to Australia.

All three couples celebrated their diamond anniversaries with a shared lunch at the Gilbert Valley Hotel on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of Valentine’s Day today.
