State government support low income earners with electricity

Up to 168,000 SA households are likely to receive an early Christmas bonus from the state government following their decision to support low income earners’ through their annual electricity bills.

The homeowners’ offer saving of between $253 and $531 will be available to South Australians eligible for the existing State Government Energy Concession, with the new agreement to be provided under Origin Energy.

The offer includes:

  • A guaranteed 18 per cent discount on usage and supply charges
  • Flexible payment options
  • No late payment fees
  • No processing fees
  • No paper bill fees
  • No credit card fees
  • No exit fees

Communities and Social Inclusion Minister Zoe Bettison will write to a significant number of the 168,000 eligible households, who are currently on a standing energy contract, and encourage them to sign up to the Origin Energy offer.

“This offer strengthens the state government’s support for fixed and low income South Australians and I urge people to consider switching to the new offer so they can pay less on their energy costs,” Ms Bettison said.

Customers will simply need to sign the letter and return it to take up the offer.
