Oyster punt is first of its kind in SA – Business Feature

A unique vessel, of interest to many in the aquaculture and boating industries, has been built by a team of local businesses on the West Coast.

The boat in question is a 12 metre by 3.9 metre beam punt from Ocean Tec, built by West Coast Welding at Streaky Bay and fitted out by Port Lincoln Boat Supplies for Angel Oysters.

The build was unusual, in no small part due to the fact that the vessel is outfitted with three Yamaha F300 outboards (4.2 litre engine), which are the largest cubic capacity on the market.

Shaun Miller of Port Lincoln Boat Supplies said he was unsure if any boat like this, a triple engine oyster punt, has ever been built in South Australia.

The boat features drive by wire controls with an LCD high definition gauge. It is also the first punt fitted with joystick steering in SA.

The build of the hull side was completed by Jason McEvoy (owner), Jake McEvoy and Dylan Williams, including frames, stringers and T-Bars. During the building stage West Coast Welding used over 20 rolls of 6kg aluminium mig wire for the punt and trailer.

The entire build an fit out took approximately four months.

Port Lincoln Boat Supplies’ factory trained technicians were proud to install their most extensive accessories list to date on the punt.

The team are on hand for all of your boating needs.
