Tanunda season preview

Tanunda found itself only just outside of an automatic grand final ticket after a sensational semi-final with Gawler Central, before falling to Barossa in the preliminary final.

The Magpies have increased its ruck stocks, boasting one of the most dangerous ruck combos in recent memory with Luke Wells and Angus Kurtze at its disposal.

Coach Craig Griffiths said the club would need to work to its strengths.

“It's terrific having those two guys, there's other good ruckman in the league, but of course we need to work with our strengths,” he said.

“We’re confident with those two guys, they'll play that role and they'll give us many opportunities around stoppages.

Despite the key addition, the Magpies have farewelled notable goal kicker Ben Gordon.

"He (Gordon) was terrific, Ben chose to move with family and work, he just couldn't commit to the training back in Tanunda, he's back at his home club,” Griffiths said.

“In saying that, Josh Trembath looks very good and will give us a good focus up forward.”

Tanunda kick starts its campaign with a trip to South, much like it did last year.

Prediction: Third

Tanunda proved to be a struggling outfit last year, and through some off-season changes have seen dramatic improvement.

Coach Amy Hart says fitness is the focus ahead of the new year.

“They are quite fit; they do a lot of fitness in their own time,” she said.

“We’ve focused on court structures and getting to know each other better; that mental toughness that is needed at that level.”
