NEW START: The Co-op chief executive officer Graeme Longmuir is keen to see redevelopment on the mall begin soon.

THE former Mitre 10 Trade building will soon be demolished, as part of the Barossa Co-op’s $25 million redevelopment.

The hardware store recently moved into the mall ahead of demolition, which is expected to begin at the site later this month.

The new supermarket is part of a 10-year strategic plan, which ensures the 70-year-old Co-op remains at the heart of Barossa retailing.

It is planned to build a new complex in the current parking area outside the Foodland store and in a reverse, eventually make the current store site the Barossa’s first undercover car park.

The Co-op chief executive officer Graeme Longmuir said the redevelopment, which is expected to create around 200 new jobs for the region, would be completed in 2018.
