TANUNDA BOWLING CLUB

This week's matches began with the ladies hosting Eudunda on the carpet. The match proved to be a very close tussle with the home side only edging away in the latter stages of the match. The match was split , two up and two down, but June Farquharson's team secured the match and 'Rink of the Day' with an excellent win.

The Midweek White side were away against Lyndoch Gold and managed a couple of drawn games but with the other team down, the side missed out overall. Midweek Black played the Lyndoch Blue side at home and had an excellent win with all three teams finishing the day comfortably in front. The 'Rink of the Day' award went to Hedley Rohrlach, Peter Baverstock and Charlie Mahoney who had a convincing win after an excellent start.

Saturday's matches, despite being keenly contested, did not result in any Tanunda sides securing an overall win. Division 2 White were away to Angaston Blue and although the team skippered by Alan Price won the 'Rink of the Week' with an excellent effort, the side could not quite manage to bring home the bacon. Division 3 battled well all day but also did not finish the day in the winner's circle.

Division 2 Black tackled the Angaston White side on the carpet but found the visitors too strong overall. Kevin Bartsch's team skipped away to a good early lead and held on well despite a late fightback by their opponents, to record the only win by the 'Blacks'.

Division 1 hosted Freeling and battled very well throughout the afternoon only to be out-gunned in the latter stages of the match. An excellent effort again by Kathy Wallace, David Pech, Ian Graetz and Robert Schneider saw them winning by a comfortable margin. This further enhanced their record as the outstanding team in the club - a great effort by Kathy , David, Ian and Robert!

NURIOOTPA BOWLING CLUB

This coming Friday evening the Nuriootpa Bowling Club will be the venue for the Barossa's best attended fun night of lawn bowls. Bowlers of all ages and abilities will descend upon the Nuri greens to take part in the, sell out, Old Swingers Fours tournament. Last years inaugural event was such a resounding success that Tournament Director Roger Mattschoss was able to fill this year's tournament to a Tiger Park capacity of 28 teams. Participants are reminded that tea will be served at 6pm with play commencing at 7pm. For anyone not lucky enough to be taking part why not come along and enjoy the evening's atmosphere; the bar will be open to facilitate players and onlookers alike.

Nuri's Div One Side got off to a slow start at Lyndoch last Saturday and never fully recovered. Stuart Allen's boys bucked the trend by making a big come back after smoko to surge into the lead over the last few ends of the day to record the Tiger's only points of the contest. An individual highlight for the Nuri Side was the brilliant form of Rodney Garrett who gave his team a great start all afternoon.

Div Two's Nuri Green Side continue to make every post a winner with all rinks up against Kapunda Red. Ian Klaebe's crew scored yet another win for the season but kept their opponents in the game to finish just 7 shots up while Peter Buckley's troops marched ahead all afternoon, finishing 18 shots clear. Damian Langley and his squad got out of the blocks slowly to be 7 to 13 down at smoko but came home with a wet sail to drop only one shot for the rest of the afternoon to finish 17 shots up and complete a, straight sets, 41 shot away victory for the Greens.

Second placed Nuri Gold travelled to Eudunda to take on the bottom Side and came back home without a winning rink and only one premiership point for their troubles while Nuri Black added to their recent run of losses with a 24 shot defeat at the hands of the visiting Freeling outfit. Kevin Harrison for Nuri Black managed to secure the points for his Side with a narrow, three shot win.

Nuri Gold hosted Kapunda in Div Three and finished 21 shots up mainly due to the efforts of Jill Chapman's team who put in a commanding performance to finish 24 ahead, while Nuri Black went down to Lyndoch despite wins to Sean Hyland and Heather Roberts.

Last Thursday Nuri's Ladies Side fell agonisingly short of their Kapunda opponent's score to lose by just one shot. Mitzi Elix and Maureen Nolan managed to secure points for our girls but the overall loss will make their Premiership defence very difficult.

Thursday's men's comp. was a successful one for Nuri with all Sides tasting success except for Nuri Black who went down to Nuri Brown by just one shot. With the Browns losing key bowler Noel Christophersen as a late withdrawal and Nuri Black gaining the services of Fabulous Phil Fechner the Browns had their backs to the wall but managed to clinch a rewarding, come from behind win on the last end of the day. Phil Fechner scored a solid win for the Blacks while Bobby Randall and Ron Ellis finished in front for Nuri Brown.

Nuri Gold tasted success for just the third time this Season with a win over Angaston White at Tiger Park. Once again Wayne Williams and crew were the mainstays for the Golds with a good win over strong opposition with Peter Buckley and his men adding two points to the Tiger's tally.

The Nuri Green boys are enjoying a winning Season and brought home the points from Angaston with a 24 shot win. Rod Garrett, Ian Klaebe and Greg Prior all skippered wins for Nuri Green.

Nuri Blue, also enjoying a successful year, accounted for Kapunda Copper by 27 shots due mainly to the stunning 33 shot victory of Dave Wilson's troops. Along with John McIntosh and Rob Warnest, Willow claimed the Glasses award for rink of the week.

This week's lucky Wohler's award went to popular club member Colin Hughes.
