In a nutshell, Barossa entrepreneur Kym Brown will tell you she “feels fabulous at 50 with five frenetic foster kids”.
And it’s her zest for life, combined with a bit of “craziness”, as she calls it, which has recently seen her nominated for the 2017 AusMumpreneur Awards.
The prestigious award honours an Australian business mum who has achieved outstanding success in areas of business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation.
It is further designed to highlight the increasing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
Mrs Brown already boasts an impressive work ethic across 22 years, with 50 business awards which she said stems from “a fantastic team of 35 who deliver life changing experiences to our ever-expanding clientele”.
She also pays huge respect to her “amazing” husband Steve of 26 years for his support and caring for their four boys ranging from two to 13, and their precious one-year-old girl.
Mrs Brown is Getaways SA director of fun and experiences, which is based in Tanunda.
“I have the most enjoyable business in the world,” she said. “After honeymooning in Tasmania 26 years ago, we fell in love with the B&B concept and everything it had to offer.” Homeward bound, Mrs Brown said finding the right property in the right location, they turned to Barossa Valley for their first home and first business investment.
Since then they haven’t looked back and together revel in the joy they have brought to guests who love their properties and all the extra special touches they offer.
However, Mrs Brown is quick to share that having a family of five and running a business has its challenges.
Her advice to make it work, “surround yourself with a great team and supportive friends, have a clear plan, live your dream, work hard, keep evolving and creating and share your success with others.
“It is really important to keep true to yourself and your community,” she added.
