The long weekend break has been and gone, and Mr Hockey is back with his insights on the latest round of BVHA action.

Well, sports fans… it has been a loooong time since I saw some live hockey action action (two weeks is a long time when you're my age – anything can pack up in two weeks!).

The Trouble and Strife didn't need to give me an amorous tap on the shoulder to get me jumping out of my doona and into some more hockey action… and Johnny and Bart were already standing to attention and waiting for orders, as raring to go as the peepers they shelter!

Wolfing down the All Bran and straining my splendid cup of tea that the Minister of Home Comforts had lovingly prepared, I was as eager as the little 'uns to hear the battle cries commence.

And the little tackers played with gusto and verve; swinging, tackling, running, skipping like little lambs on the frolic, it was a sight for this old sea dog to behold!

I then watched some snippets of other junior games and retrundled back out to watch a bit of the senior games in the arvo.

I tell you something, folks, the A Men is a fight for the finish at this stage of the season.

The Blockheads are pretty much out of the running but the top two are causing more bruises than a towball on a dark night… and this is making my bookie's heart trill with more delight than a cage full of canaries around a millet stick.

Now that the canteen duties have gotten used to the idea of selling their wares outside the kitchen corner, I might take the new kitchen over for my "barber's shop" with chalkboard and a little green visor.

This makes me thrill to the chase, to see those young, fit bucks chasing hard and passing so quickly in a developing team game!

The other game of real interest to me was the top of the table clash in the Seconds, with the Dark Horse of the younger Blockies taking on the Old Collegians.

Tense battle and I'm predicting that the Final Countdown may be this rematch. We shall see...

Congrats also I hear to all the young ‘uns who played last weekend in the zones and good luck in the school comps coming up!

It's great to see our little country association taking on the metro kids and winning.

It shows our depth of talent but also the increase of our playmaking ability since the inception of the turf.

Some worthy mentions among them as well.

I hear of some milestone games coming up or just been: Nuri stalwart Marty Gallasch has a big one coming up and Tanunda stalwarts Trev Hongell just celebrated more games (350) for his club than anyone else and Nathan Gogoll has a big one looming.

I'd love to hear some stats on other club furniture pieces like Nick Sharrad and Munchy?

And some stats for the girls?

Especially my Stripey mates from up north.

Take care all, wield a big stick till next time.
