The Nuriootpa landfill off Belvidere Road and located in the Light Regional Council will close on June 30 this year.
The confirmation was recently made by the owner Cleanaway in an email to regular users.
A spokesperson from the waste management company told the Herald, “the reason for the closure followed a detailed review made by Cleanaway regarding the ongoing viability of the site as a landfill operation”.
Representatives from Cleanaway met with The Barossa Council on May 8 to discuss the closure and the implications for The Barossa Council and the Light Regional Council.
However, neither council would reveal any further details such as short or long term alternative options.
The Barossa Council said it was looking at other potential hard waste arrangements.
A comment could not be provided by the Light Regional Council.
