The Penrice Quarry and Mineral biannial open day was a huge success with more than 1000 people attending the event.
Visitors enjoyed watching a loading demonstration, which saw the loading of a 90 tonne dump truck with a Komatsu PC1250 (125 tonne) excavator and the loading of the truck with a Komatsu WA900 Front End Loader.
Visitors were also given the opportunity to climb up and sit in the seat of a Komatsu WA600 Front End Loader, Atlas Copco Drill Rig and a Komatsu HD785 (90 tonne) dump truck. Free bus tours gave people the chance to see the perimeter of the pit and to look at three differnt crushers in action.
This gave visitors a chance to see the raw feed material that was being put into the hopper of the crusher and then understand the final products that are produced and the markets that they are attributed to.
“The day far exceeded our expectations,” James Rowe, Mine Production Manager said.
“In 2011 we had 500 visitors to the site which was fantastic. This year we marketed the event wider in anticipation to gain another 100-200 people attending the event.
“To get over 1000 people attend the event was unbelievable. We were definitely stretched both for logistics in parking and personnel helping on the day. We organised a larger car park near our offices than in 2011 and also an emergency overflow area.
“By 11.30am the emergency car park was nearly at capacity and we were very close to having to turn people away at the front gate.
“The demonstrations were a hit and also the ability for the kids to sit in the seat of some of our largest machines onsite put a smile on their faces.
“We had a lot of smiles and positive feedback from the big kids too. I would also like to make mention and show gratitude to all of our staff and employees onsite at the quarry for all of the tireless hours it took to make the event a huge success.
“We have a great dedicated crew onsite at the quarry and they are always dedicated to pitching in to ensure the local community, including family and friends have an enjoyable day.”
Penrice would like to thank all of the community members that attended the day, it was a huge success and we hope that everybody that attended has a greater understanding about the quarry and its operations.
