Sadly Nick Wagner, in his assumptions about the opposition to the Vodafone tower in its current location, has failed to get the facts.
The 111 people who made written representations opposed it purely on the basis of the proposed location on the unspoilt rural ridge which forms the western boundary of Tanunda.
There was no opposition at all to new towers.
Six alternative sites have been suggested to Vodafone along with the names and contact numbers of the people who are willing to enter into discussion with Vodafone.
The group of concerned citizens has offered a constructive response: none are Luddites to my knowledge, contrary to Mr Wagner’s assumption.
Telephone towers are going to proliferate as telecommunications becomes more complex.
A proposal was made to the Development Assessment Panel and to the Light Council, that both the Barossa and Light councils co-ordinate a public meeting with all telecommunications providers to plot future locations for towers, so that they can be co-located or otherwise located to minimise the visual impact on our landscape.
I believe we can have up-graded telecommunications facilities, without necessarily causing major blots on our magically beautiful areas.
If we plan carefully, we can have our telecommunications cake and retain the beauty of the Barossa.
