The 24 Hour Reliability Trial has been run, but we don’t yet know who has won.
According to Brett Tomkins, a member of the 24 Hour event committee - and a competitor, the provisional results should be available later in the week.
There is no indication, apart from a good guess, as to which riders will battle it out for overall honours.
With an updated point system and a dozen competitive stages across each 250km lap, the final results are taking some time to compile.
But the organisers have been thrilled with the event.
A record number of entries were taken for the event - 170 in all, including the highest number of interstate riders and New Zealand’s Chris Power returning.
“The rain held off and the track was brilliant,” Brett Tomkins said. “It has already been renowned as the best and the hardest course yet.
“Everyone loved it.”
The new spectator section, located near Truro, was also a big hit.
“A lot of people enjoyed that, getting up close to the riders,” Mr Tomkins said. “And spectator numbers were up.”
The 24-hour event is the second-longest running motorcycle event in the world.
It has been held since 1924, which puts it behind only the Isle of Man TT, as one of the world’s oldest motorcycling events.
“The interstate riders all think we’re crazy, riding around in the dark,” Mr Tomkins said.
The variety of conditions and terrain make this event truly unique.
Shane Diener, who has won the event an amazing 10 times, was happy to talk it up.
“It’s one of the best events in Australia for sure, if not the world,” Diener said. “Not only is it mentally and physically draining but bike preparation is a huge factor.
“It’s the biggest buzz when you’re wide open through a special section at 1am and there’s huge camp fires and everyone’s cheering you on, nothing beats that.”
Diener was one of the favourites going in to the 2009 trial, along with New Zealand’s Chris Power, Rowan Pumpa and Anthony Diener.
The sidecar field was expected to be hotly contested with four past winners in the field of 20 -including the combinations of Christopher Schultz/Stuart Gerhardy, Shane Schiller/Steven Doecke, Hector Evan/Adrian Rohrlach and Dave Manual/Tony Tscharke.
