The Lion's Den

19 Feb, 2008 02:47 PM
South Gawler Football Club is pleased to advise members that “In the Lions Den” will appear exclusively in the Herald from now on.

The Lions appreciate the support of the Herald in helping to reliably spread our important information that is widely read and anticipated by a wide range of Lions.

All grades from under 15s to A grade are now training every Tuesday and Thursday at the Den.

The under 15s start at 5pm under Grant O’Reilly, the under 17s start training at 5.30pm under the enthusiastic and passionate Cosie Costa and the seniors start at 6pm under Damien Herzick, Matt Gallarello and Paul Mann.

All players need to start training as soon as possible to lay a solid base for the season.

There is plenty of ball work in all grades but running shoes and proper training attire is required.

New players are particularly welcome. Any players or members with any senior football issues can contact Matt Trimboli on 0414 390 300. Please contact Peter Reichstein on 0402 113 896 with any junior football issues.

The Little League and Modified teams will start training on Thursday, March 6 from 4pm.

Again any players who can’t wait are welcome to train with the Under 15s.

Qualified coaches and trainers are in attendance at all training sessions where player safety and development is always a priority.

Any ‘old’ Lions who have a bit of run in their legs are encouraged to consider umpiring. The umpires train at Willaston on Monday and Greenock on Wednesdays – contact Peter Dunstan for details.

‘Bocce under the Stars’ has had to be rescheduled so keep an eye out for the revised date. This fun family night is good value and will kick the club’s social program off for 2008.

By popular demand the Den will be open on Friday, March 14 from 6pm. In the meantime Lions are encouraged to support our sponsor ‘The Exchange’ on Friday evenings.

The Den is also open on Thursday during training.

Trial matches are being organised but the seniors will be participating in a lightning carnival at Loxton on March 15 and 16 – why not make a weekend of it and support our boys?

South Gawler will be hosting Greenacres Football Club at the Den on April 5 which will be a good chance to see our new recruits.

Sponsorship packages are about to be distributed so if you know anyone who would like to make an important community contribution please advise Jim Callander on 0418 820 178.

Thanks again to the Herald and ‘Go the Lions’.
