Scott’s 12-goal haul

08 Jul, 2008 05:18 PM
Twin forward targets Scott Hahn and Brendan Niklaus were the reason for Gawler Central’s convincing win in a high scoring shootout against bottom-placed Freeling.

Hahn kicked a season-high 12 goals, while the strongly-built Niklaus finished with eight in the Tiger’s 65-point win.

However coach Mark Brant said it wasn’t a polished display.

“While we’ll always take an 11-goal win, we still have plenty of room for improvement,” Brant said. “We need to address our intensity over the four quarters of the contest. At times I thought we were complacent and didn’t use the football well.

“Freeling had a crack and produced a number of good passages of play.

“It should be noted they also have a number of players on the sidelines.”

Hahn was the dominant player in attack with his career-high haul, having 16 scoring shots, as well as laying off a couple more.

The attack was well fed by wingman Clint Hill, Aaron King and company in the middle, while young Luke Howard was the key big man dominating the tap work.

Back pocket Ryan Clasohm was also a consistent contributor.

Interestingly in a 26-goal effort there were only five separate goal kickers as Kirk Heberle, King and opportunist Jamie Scott slotted through a couple each.

For Freeling, evergreen veteran Paris Fowden was also impressive with seven majors.

Casey Thomas was shut out by Luke Copley especially in the first half. Lachie Heinrich, Travis Muster, another ex –North Adelaide league footballer Josh Newberry, Russell Clark and Kris Barry continued to work hard.

A special mention goes to first year player Jess O’Leary who performed admirably.
