The world’s leading glass container maker, O-I, visited the Barossa last Thursday to showcase a new lightweight wine bottle range.
The visit was one of a series of South Australian roadshow tours throughout June and July to highlight the new range of substantially lighter and more environmentally friendly glass wine bottles.
The O-I team was at Peter Lehmann Wines, Tanunda, to talk in depth about the new bottles.
O-I has invested $3.5million in equipment and trials at its Adelaide plant to reduce the weight of selected Claret and Burgundy wine bottles by between 18 and 28 per cent.
Such a weight reduction represents one of the largest breakthroughs in wine bottle making in Australia and retains O-I’s Adelaide plant at the forefront of wine bottle making facilities globally.
