What promises to be a exciting finals series of BL&G football starts with a clash between Gawler Central and Kapunda at Eldred Riggs Reserve on Saturday.
In the minor round, less than 10 points separated these sides in both games and a number of match ups are compelling.
“Like any game this will be won in the midfield,” said Gawler Central coach Mark Brant.
“We need to be first to the footy and do the basics well. Clean hands and clean movement are important, along with being able to sustain pressure all over the ground.
“We’ve had two good game games against Kapunda and they are well coached by Damien Prouse.”
For Kapunda, Brad Taylor, Mark Cussadia, state country representative Brad Valentine and captain Nathan Brady up forward are all important.
So too is Corey Ryan who is playing well across half back, giving Kapunda run and versatility.
Central forwards Scott Hahn and Brendan Niklaus have kicked a combined total of 138 goals so far this season and Prouse sees them as a dangerous pair but knows the Tigers have more arrows to their bow.
“Obviously Hahn and Niklaus will get attention,” Prouse said. “But Brad Taylor and Aaron King are keys in the supply chain to the forwards for Gawler Central.
“The clash between Adam Turrell and Luke Howard in ruck is another important component. Last time Adam won the centre bounce contests, but Howard was damaging around the ground. Accountability is our catch cry and we’re primed.”
