Harktheheraldangel made another contribution to the Make A Wish Foundation with a third at Murray Bridge last Wednesday.
The filly came from last in her 1406 metre maiden race to be placed behind Calm Customer, beaten by two-and-a-half lengths.
Part-owners Kath and David Hornhardt, of Tanunda, have kindly agreed to donate 10 per cent of any stakemoney won by the filly to the Barossa branch of the charity.
For her fast-finishing third at the Bridge last week, Harktheheraldangel collected $710 in stakemoney meaning the Horndharts will donate $71 to charity.
It adds to the $62 she collected for a third placing at Balaklava last year when trained by David Hayes at Lindsay Park.
Hopefully readers who have been following the filly might have dabbled a dollar or two each-way as she paid a place dividend of $14.20 on UniTab.
Trainer Jon O’Connor believes it won’t be the last donation the filly earns.
“I’m sure she can win a race,” O’Connor said.
“As I said before last week she has been working well enough to win a race but I felt her draw of 16 would be a problem.”
Jockey Adrian Patterson opted to ease the filly back to last on settling down in the field of 16.
The plan was to let her sprint home up the long straight at Murray Bridge.
“She really did come home powerfully,” O’Connor said.
“And she did get held up for a short while behind other horses or might have got even closer.”
O’Connor said he was now considering running Harktheheraldangel out of her class next Wednesday (April 29) at Balaklava.
“I think she is now looking for a 1600 metre race and at Balaklava there is one over that trip but it is for 0-62 class horses which basically means they might have won one race.
“She has been placed at the track and I’m sure the long straight will suit her again.”
O’Connor said the plan would be to again smother her up in the early stages and then let her sprint home.
“She took no harm from the run and has been eating up and working well since. When she first came into my stable she was a bit hot-headed but now has settled down .”
