The Southern Saints has probably the most new recruits of any footy club in the state.
The new club formed by the amalgamation of Eudunda and Robertstown will have an ‘all new’ list of players for a debut season on the Northern Areas league.
Adam Turrell, the 2009 Eudunda coach, has the duty as Saints’ foundation coach.
“It is a big step forward for myself - and the two communities,” Turrell said.
“It’s very exciting.”
The coach (and undersized, but super-effective ruckman) has already poached the Kapunda best and fairest and one of the Port Magpies’ favourite sons.
Andrew Turrell (‘09 Bomber B&F and Adam’s brother) has signed on.
So has Corey Ah Chee - who is a past Magpie captain and played 206 senior games in the ‘prison bar’ jumper.
They’ve also talked Anton Schiller out of retirement - he’s a past Tanunda winger/midfielder.
And work has been done to try and poach Tanunda back-up ruckman Leigh Underwood.
Coach Turrell is also thrilled with the players to come from Robertstown.
“The best thing about those boys is they come off back-to-back premierships - so they bring a winning culture to the club.”
The Saints have a trial game booked in against Hamley Bridge next weekend.
Everything is building toward participation in September’s ‘major round’.
At this stage there is no official word on what song the Saints will sing when they win their first match - but chances are it will involve some ‘marching in’.
