Nuriootpa junior colts make grand final

07 Sep, 2010 03:01 PM
NURIOOTPA junior colts advanced to their second grand final in consecutive years beating minor premier Tanunda by 13 points.

After a solid 48 hours of rain the oval looked to be holding up well until half-time.

Nuriootpa took great advantage of the dry ball early in kicking two goals in the opening quarter, a lead that would result in the Tigers winning margin.

The sides were locked in battle in the second and third quarters with Nuriootpa leading into the last change only one straight kick in front.

Nuriootpa, through Jordan Furnell, kicked the match-winning goal and the finals’ hardened Tigers held Tanunda at bay.

Nuriootpa coach Tony Linke was pleased with overall team effort.

“Everyone stood up in the trying conditions,” Linke said. “It was an excellent overall team effort and our best for the year with our determination and grit to continually push the ball forward.”

Best players for the Tigers were Jordan Furnell in the midfield, James Graetz on the wing and Luke Bevan in the ruck.

For Tanunda, best were prolific playmakers David Trotta, midfielder William Mudge and Nathaniel Geue.
