Nuriootpa will be rueing a missed opportunity, after having Sandy Creek reeling at 4/27 on Saturday.

However, a middle order fightback (Bill Fuller 67, Lee Ratcliffe 122 and Corey Roberts 38 not out) saw the Cockatoos post 6/266 at the end of the first day’s play.

At South Gawler, an 85-run opening stand by Max Hosking (64) and Kris Vanderloo (38) helped Gilbert Vally post a respectable total of 192. South Gawler’s David Golder was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5/53 from 22 overs. In reply the Lions are 1/51 overnight and will need to get some big scores from their top order if they hope to cause an upset.

Gawler Central is hosting Angaston in a game that could prove pivotal to the Tigers’ finals aspirations.

The Tigers went into the game hit by injuries with spinner Chis Bilney (broken leg) and Craig Dawe (groin) out for a while.

Half centuries by form batsmen Jamie MacCafferty (56) and Willy Searle (53) and 33 from opener Ty Stock rescued the Tigers from what was otherwise a disastrous innings as no other player reached double figures ijn the team’s score of 180.

Fast bowler Matt Blenkiron (4/30 from 14 overs) was the main destroyer with the ball in an attack that has to compete with each other to get the wickets.

The Blues 4/73 (Kym Vivian 42) are well placed with some strong batting yet to come but early wickets will give the Tigers a chance to claim the points. Kapunda’s confidence is sky high currently and it will be even higher after they bowled Tanunda out for just 49 before declaring at 3/70 and sending the Pies back in for a shot at an outright victory.

A lone hand by Greenock captain Gary Stevens (66) helped Greenock’s A1 reserves post 121 runs before Truro’s reply of 6/51 (including four dnb’s) gave the Schlungers the upper hand while Light Pass would be confident their total of 9/222 will be enough to hold Freeling at bay.

Eudunda/Robertstown (128) can thank J R Mosey (54) for having any chance in the clash with Lyndoch (4/51). Saturday’s A2 contest between Gawler Central and Angaston gave an insight into the future with 16 year old Dylan Schmidt opening the batting for the Blues and hammering 117 not out. Dylan was well supported by Nick Pech (111), Aaron Murphy (46), and Brad Brook (37) as their side posted a monster total of 5/334
