Gawler Rangers no match for Goodwood

23 Feb, 2010 05:25 PM
Gawler Rangers A grade baseball team was no match for Goodwood Indians at Karbeethan on Saturday.

A blowout in the second innings resulted in Goodwood scoring 10 runs after a succession of errors and good hitting.

Frustrations boiled over and Mark Terrana was ejected from the game for umpire abuse. The ejection is likely to incur a one-game suspension.

Third baseman Matt Turner replaced Terrana on the mound and pitched well for the rest of the game, but the damage had been done.

James Parker, who had played well at right field, shifted to third base then cracked a home run at his next time at bat.

The B grade played a thrilling game against Golden Grove Central Districts, going down 5-6 to the top team.

Wayne Jenkins once again starred with three hits and pitched well after taking over from Rick Leonard who threw two innings in his arm rehabilitation program and came through unscathed.

Dylan Winning again showed his class with two hits and a polished display in the field.

The Under 14s had a good 15-8 win against Henley and Grange.

Luke Torkington had his best game for the season with three hits and a good pitching performance.

Once again the Little League teams showed plenty of fight against Woodville and East Torrens respectively.

The D grade was in control in their match against Goodwood until the last innings when the opposition piled on five runs to take the game 7-5. The C grade went down to GGCD.

The under 16s were awarded a 9-0 forfeit when Henley & Grange was unable to field a team.
