Youth impact

Adam and Hannah Judd are passionate advocates for the Barossa’s young people.

This week the husband and wife were jointly named Barossa ‘young citizens of the year’.

Tanunda’s Janelle Miegel nominated the couple for their tireless efforts with youth.

Adam and Hannah open their home to young people every week.

They share meals and discuss life issues with their fellow youth.

And they host these events with hardly any help.

But earlier this year, Adam and Hannah decided it was time to find out more about Barossa young people.

They launched an online ‘youth survey’ to find out what youngsters thought about and what they wanted to see in the Barossa.

The couple sourced sponsorship for the survey, in order to offer terrific incentive prizes.

The survey generated more than 400 responses and a huge concert celebration event.

‘Our Day on the Scene’ was held last Wednesday, with live bands, games, giveaways and an outdoor cinema session.

The day was a great success, born out of some of the top requests of the youth from the survey.

The Rotary Club cooked sausages and sold drinks for the 200 young people who took part in the free event.

Throughout the afternoon there were spam eating competitions, trick comps, human wheelbarrow races and dance-offs revved up the crowd thanks to the host’s Undead Radio.

Local talent including DJ CIBO, Fake Reality, and Kate Beales also entertained the masses.

Adam and Hannah are determined that ‘Our Day on the Scene’ will not be a one-off event, and with their fellow organisers they are keen to make it bigger and better very soon.

If you would like to know more about the event or offer to help make it a great success next time, visit www.youthsurvey.com.au on the internet.

If launching the youth survey and helping to stage the youth event weren’t enough, the pair have a vision to establish a youth centre in the Barossa.

Earlier this year they got a boost from a State-Government funded program - Community Builders - that identified this project as having long-term value to the community.

Adam and Hannah are now involved in a Community Builders sub-group that is looking for ways of facilitate a centre for the youth of the Barossa to meet.
