THERE’s hope for the Williamstown Primary School Hall development.
Recent reports suggested Federal Government funding for the project may be withdrawn due to a six-month delay in construction.
However, with no official government announcement made, it is believed the proposed hall will be built.
Julee Veljanovski, school principal, is confident the project will eventually start.
“As far as we’re concerned it’s going ahead,” she said.
“We haven’t heard otherwise.”
Last year the school was awarded $2million funding as part of the Federal Government’s nation building economic stimulus, ‘Building the Education Revolution’ initiative.
Work began on the project in September with initial earthworks uncovering human remains at the site, believed to be of Aboriginal origin and at least 200 years old.
Construction was immediately suspended, pending an analysis of the remains by experts including archaeologists.
To make way for the new hall the school sacrificed a playground, sandpit and a miniature pine forest of 28 trees.
Ms Veljanovski said the school had been unable to use their oval over the summer as there was no longer sufficient shade for students.
“We anticipate the new hall, when completed will replace the shade once provided by the pine trees,” she added.
