Tour Downunder Tourism

02 Jul, 2009 10:24 AM
The 2010 Tour Down Under race dates have been confirmed.

The world’s best road cyclists will zoom around Adelaide, and the surrounding regions, from January 17-24.

The State Government hopes next year’s event will build on the huge success of the 2009 event.

Jane Lomax-Smith, State Tourism Minister, said this year’s tour - which included Lance Armstrong’s comeback to the world cycling - attracted record crowds and visitors.

“Official Tour Operators recorded a 54 per cent increase on package sales in 2009, compared to 2008,” Dr Lomax-Smith said.

Both the State Government and the accredited tour operators will hope this trend continues.

Seven official tour operators have been appointed for next January’s event. Each offers a unique cycling holiday that offers cycle enthusiasts the chance to ride some or all of the race routes, as well as watch the professionals in action.

“Visitors can watch the race action... while experiencing the very best of South Australia’s food, wine and scenery,” Dr Lomax-Smith said.
