The KGB Big band is a vibrant 20-piece swing band.
On Friday, April 23, the big band plans to light up the Tanunda Show Hall.
Those who love to listen to - and dance to - swing music, should mark this date in the diary now - the Anzac Weekend Dance is an event not to miss.
While the band’s name makes you think of communist Russia, it is actually just an abbreviation of Kapunda-Gawler-Barossa Big Band.
The swing band the will be the highlight, and the dance floor is sure to be packed.
Entry is $20-per-head, with BYO food and drinks, (tea and coffee is included in the ticket price).
Tickets are available through the Visitor Information Centre in Tanunda, and Office National in Nuriootpa.
Noel Bauer, a former Nuriootpa High School deputy principal, formed the band in 1998.
The band was first made up of students, retired musicians, and others who wanted to play and promote the music of the swing era - from 1935 to 1946 when big band swing was the most popular music in the USA.
Since then, demand around the region and across Adelaide has seen the band become a more professional and hard working outfit.
The band’s repertoire includes hits of the swing era made famous by Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and the Dorsey Brothers, as well as some of the more famous names such as Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Natalie Cole and Van Morrison.
The KGB Big Band has appeared at many functions; including the Vintage Festival, Adelaide Jazz Club Ball, and has twice travelled to the Hall’s Gap Jazz Festival.
The Band performs annually ‘on stage’ at the Brenton Langbein Theatre, a show that sells out well in advance.
