Rising motor sport star Jake Jones, 21, has secured a major sponsorship deal.
The Tanunda-based drift competitor has received support after talks with Japanese-based tyre manufacturing company Yokohama/Advan Australia.
“We’ve been in talks with the company for a while and they’ve now decided to come on board,” he said.
The company will supply Jake with his competition tyres allowing him to spend more time focused on fine-tuning his car setup and on track technique.
“The sponsorship deal really is a dream come true,” he said.
“It’s really going to help me further my drifting career and focus my attention on performance.”
For Yokohama/Advan it will be their first foray into the sport of drifting after being strong supporters of other motor sport categories around the world.
Jake said the racing tyre would suit his car perfectly for drift competition events.
The key to successful drifting is not straight forward. The sport involves far more than burnouts, burning rubber and getting cars to go sideways.
Drivers are constantly “chasing grip” to gain a competitive advantage.
On the competition track the action is high-speed with cars seeking the best sideways action, often in a cloud of smoke.
You can meet Jake at the Trackskill ute show which is on every night this week from 8.30pm at the Adelaide Show.
