Slides, speed and sun at Kapunda

24 Jan, 2012 02:38 PM
KAPUNDA’S Dutton Raceway was hot in more ways than one when the South Australian Long Track Championships were held on Sunday.

Not only did the temperature hover around 40 degrees for much of the day, the riders were racing around the track at a blistering pace.

A crowd of more than 2000 attended the event and organisers said they were very happy with how everything came together on the day.

Organiser Neil Burston said they had received plenty of positive feedback from spectators and riders.

“We haven’t had any negative comments, everybody has been very complimentary,’ he said.

“The riders have all been the same, all very complimentary, it was all quite good.”

“They loved it and they all want to come back.”

Mr Burston said organisers are keen to see it become a regular event in Kapunda and they would be working on making that happen.

“We are going to have to sit down with the Kapunda Harness Racing Club and see the way forward from here. This was a trial,” he said.

We travelled up from Adelaide for this.

I hope the trotting club realise what a crowd draw this can be if it becomes an annual event.

We also spent money at three different places in the town, so it must be good for the town as well.

The event has got coverage in interstate and overseas magazines.
