The survivor of a Gomersal Road rollover has a message for the people who maintain the road.
“Something needs to be done about the condition of the road, the next person may not be so lucky,” Brooke Hutchinson said.
Brooke was fortunate to walk away from a crash where her Mitsubishi Lancer rolled up an embankment on Thursday, November 4.
She walked away from her upturned car with just bumps and bruises.
As she travelled around a bend she dropped two wheels off the sealed road surface. The drop to the eroded shoulder of the road meant Brooke lost a fight for control.
“It was like I was on train tracks,” she said.
Brooke said the edge these conditions will be just as dangerous for other drivers.
The maintenance of Gomersal Road falls primarily to the Light Regional Council, with a small section near Tanunda the responsibility of the Barossa Council.
But given the large amount of traffic, including a great deal of heavy transport, the councils have applied to re-classify the road.
This would allow the surface maintenance to be funded by State Government.
Brooke Hutchinson is living proof this process must be finalised and the road fixed - and action is required now.
“There definitely needs to be something done,” she said.
The crash survivor said she is a careful and sensible driver, who was just minutes from home when her accident happened.
She wants to thank all the people who stopped to help her.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to those who held my car up and put themselves in danger,” Brooke said.
She is also grateful to Darryl Francis, from Gawler, who pulled her out, and to the ladies who comforted her before the ambulance arrived.
“I know how lucky I am to still be alive,” Brooke said.
