 Re-align?

Re-align?

01 Apr, 2008 02:58 PM
Just 20 people are required to join together before a request to change to a council boundary will be considered.

And with 20 signatures from eligible electors on board, a public initiated submission can be lodged with the Boundary Adjustment Facilitation.

Ivan Venning, State Member for Schubert, believes people need to give this action serious consideration.

“I understand that a line has to be drawn somewhere,” Mr Venning said. “But I do think the current council boundaries within the Barossa and surrounding areas could do with some re-alignment.”

Mr Venning has reported that several people have contacted his office to raise this issue.

No doubt Mr Venning has offered them the State Government’s Boundary Adjustment Facilitation Panel’s contact details.

People can reach a representative of the panel by phoning 8204 8700.

The State Liberal politician said he had also heard from representatives of the business community.

Concerns about industry specific issues which might potentially be handled differently by different councils have been raised.

“I want people to understand that I am not saying councils should amalgamate,” Mr Venning said.

“I simply believe it makes sense in regards to keeping industry and residents within the same council area, and members of the same communities within the same council region.

“Where practical.”

The Boundary Adjustment Panel has not received any recent submissions from the Barossa or Light Regional Council areas.
