Lucas Barsby hopes he’s done Australia a favour by creating a new chip flavour.
The Evanston man has been announced as one of four finalists in Smith’s, do us a flavour competition.
His idea, Late Night Kebab, will contest Sydney’s Caesar Salad, Melbourne’s BBQ Coat of Arms and Perth’s Buttered Popcorn.
Each is hoping for their share in one per cent of all sales on release of the winning chip and to instantly win $30,000 for their invention.
“I’m trying to not get ahead of myself, although I am very excited,” Lucas said.
The idea for his chip creation comes from Lucas and he mates enjoying eating kebabs late at night.
And the taste, according to Lucas, comes as close to a kebab by including flavours of lamb, garlic, chilli and bread.
“I entered the competition once and did it within five minutes,” he said.
However the hardest part for Lucas was keeping tight-lipped until now, after he was announced a finalist by the Smith’s company in July. The four finalists were chosen from 314,000 entries.
On Monday, packets of the four new chip flavours filled supermarket shelves across the state. Each packet now reveals the chip flavour and a photo of the entrant.
Lucas, who works as a banker, says it will be his partner who will see his smiling face each day as she works in Foodland, Gawler.
The Australian public is now encouraged to sample the chips and vote online for their favourite taste at www.smiths.com.au on the internet.
The closing date for the competition is Sunday, December 6.
