The Diana Krall concert at Peter Lehmann Wines was part of the 200th show celebrations for ‘a day on the green’.
After nine years, more than one million happy patrons and some terrific concerts, the popular winery series ‘a day on the green’ celebrated its 200th show.
The milestone was celebrated twice on Saturday.
Every now and then there are two ‘day on the green’ concerts staged on the same day, usually with different artists in different states.
By happy coincidence, the 200th show fell on one such weekend.
So the celebration took place at Peter Lehmann Wines as well as with Tom Jones in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley.
Diana Krall, Madeleine Peyroux, Melody Gardot and Katie Noonan set the tone for the Barossa party.
For the promoters - Michael and Anthea Newton of Roundhouse Entertainment - the milestone was a momentous one.
The idea of combining music with magnificent winery locations was not new, but opera and jazz had been the dominant musical genres.
Roundhouse Entertainment built an experience that combined artists with carefully selected wineries, offering a day of good food and wine, good company and of course great music. It has become known as a ‘big day out’ for grown-ups.
The first ‘day on the green’ at Peter Lehmann Wines took place in December 2003, with American singer-songwriter Boz Scaggs the headline act.
Other performers to take the stage at the Barossa winery have included Elvis Costello, Joe Camilleri, Diesel,
Pete Murray,
The Whitlams,
Chris Isaak, Richard Clapton, Jimmy Barnes, Vanessa Amorosi, Simply Red, Kate Ceberano,
The B52’s,
The Proclaimers and Mental As Anything.
