Nuriootpa High celebrates

23 Feb, 2010 05:11 PM
The 75th year of the Nuriootpa High School began with a celebration.

The school stopped to recognise the achievements of the ‘class of 2009’ on Friday.

The ‘celebration assembly’ officially honoured Melissa Wegener and Taylor Haar as the girl and boy dux, and Merit Award recipients.

Sophie Neubauer, Paris Wotton, Shakira Steinert and Georgia Yates were also acknowledged as Merit Award winners, for scores of 20 for a Year 12 subject.

The presentation of the Groom Family ‘follow your dream’ Award was also made by Darryl Groom.

Samantha Kelly was announced as the winner of the $2500 prize, which she will use to fund her TAFE studies and future career as a contemporary jeweller.

There were six finalists in the running for the Groom award, the other five included: Sophie Neubauer who aims to become a scientist; Melissa Wegener who hopes for a career as a lawyer; Kim Blatchford who has a dream to play hockey for Australia; Allysia Sherardson whose passion is for health care in third world countries; and Gerogia Yates who aspires to become a music therapist.
