Mini tornado

02 Jul, 2009 10:16 AM
Wild weather, which hit just before lunchtime yesterday, kept emergency service crews busy all afternoon.

The Country Fire Service responded to storm damage, fallen trees and vehicle accidents across the region - with crews attending incidents at Angaston, Eden Valley, Eudunda, Freeling, Kapunda, Keyneton, Nuriootpa and Tanunda.

Lilly Farm Road, at Krondorf, was closed after a ‘mini tornado’ struck at about 11.30am.

Several large gum trees were damaged by the gusty wind, with branches left strewn across the road.

The falling branches also took out power lines and resulted in damage to stobie poles.

ETSA Utilities were called to the scene and switched off the power to allow the clean up to begin.

Falling tree branches even stopped the Penrice ‘stone train’ until the track could be cleared.
